IOM's Summer Youth School “Together to Success” Wrapped Up in Kyiv Region
In Kyiv region, the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) summer youth school “Together for Success” wrapped up after six days of learning and socializing. Twenty-four participants from three regions of Ukraine shared their experiences.
“Everything we learned sparked almost childlike curiosity and a desire to know more. As a future psychologist, I was very interested in the topic of critical thinking and the parts of our brain,” said Daria, a participant from Chernihiv region. “We had a lot of practical tasks, and after returning home, I noticed how I use the knowledge I gained every day.”
The school's curriculum included lectures on safe migration, combating human trafficking, cultural diversity, tolerance and civic responsibility. Art workshops, music, dance and sports activities complemented the programme. All participants also had the opportunity to talk to a professional psychologist.
“There was something interesting for every aspect of my personality. For example, my creativity enjoyed listening to experienced advertising professionals who are constantly looking for and implementing new ideas. It was fun to do clay modeling and play water battles for my inner child, and for me, an active adult who plans to be engaged in social work, the training on self-presentation and self-realization were very helpful,” adds Daria.
After the summer school, IOM will be ready to provide financial and expert support for further initiatives of the participants.
The event was supported by the German Embassy in Ukraine through the German Development Bank KfW in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.
