IOM, the US Embassy and the State Border Guard Service signed a road map for cooperation

The Head of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) of Ukraine Viktor Nazarenko has discussed reforms and development of internal and own security divisions of the border authority with representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Ukraine.
As the result of the meeting, Mr. Nazarenko, Director of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Section of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine Mr. Chris Smith and Head of IOM Mission in Ukraine Mr. Manfred Profazi signed the road map to implement the relevant arrangements.
During the meeting, the Head of SBGS underlined that anticorruption component is an important part of the general system of reforms within the Border Guard Service and it contributes to improve of the border guards’ image.
The implemented arrangements show positive results, in particular, this year a significant number of people who declined bribe offers was reported. In 2015, 275 employees declined bribe offers, in 2016 they were 950 people, the SBGS told.
“We are pleased to highlight that a professional team on corruption prevention joined us thanks to support of the U.S. Embassy and IOM. Elaboration of the road map, as an effective anticorruption tool, is the result of our joint efforts”, Mr. Nazarenko said.
