IOM supports on-the-job training of the State Migration Service of Ukraine experts
18 December 2014 - The State Migration Service (SMS) of Ukraine officials from the territorial units gathered in Kyiv for a two-day advanced training on “Development of the national migration policy and its implementation”. The training took place at the Postgraduate Studies Institute of the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University.
Upon invitation, Jan Baranovski, who works as Long-Term Adviser to the SMS in the frame of an EU-funded MIGRECO* project, provided his input into the training presenting a lecture on “Organizational and economic approaches to improve the state migration policy in Ukraine applying the EU countries experience”.
Mr. Baranovski, a former official from Lithuania with over 20 years of national and international experience, shared his first-hand knowledge on migration management tools of the EU Member States, provided examples relevant for Ukraine with regard to the introduction of biometric documents, population register and establishment of up-to-date visa regulations.
The lecture contributed to increased understanding of the EU approaches to migration policies as the participants were briefed on migration terminology, international standards of freedom of movement and mobility.
As SMS of Ukraine continues its efforts to establish an integrated and automated data-processing system, IOM Ukraine is committed to support the SMS activities to ensure that the staff receives regular professional training and updates on latest developments in migration management area.
