IOM-supported campaign countering forced begging starts in Odesa
2 June 2016
The campaign countering trafficking of children for forced begging, initiated by IOM Ukraine with funding from Canada’s Foreign Policy—Global Affairs Canada, has been launched in Odesa.
Over one-fourth of child victims of trafficking in Ukraine were involved in forced begging, according to the IOM data. Money people give to children begging on the streets doesn’t help them, but only bring profits to traffickers. The campaign will run through June-August in Ukraine’s sea capital, informing the residents and guests of Odesa about forced begging, and engaging the public in identification of child victims of trafficking.
The campaign has been supported by the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, the National Police, the NGO “Faith, Hope, Love”, and the Commission on the rights of the youth under Odesa City Head
