IOM announces the winners of the national youth video festival PLURAL+ UKRAINE
30 September 2016
IOM Ukraine is glad to announce the winners of the National Youth Video Festival PLURAL+ UKRAINE dedicated to the 65th anniversary of IOM globally and 20 years of IOM’s work in Ukraine.
The winner in the category of video up to 10 minutes is Svitlana Sokolova, Kyiv, and her work “At Home among Friends”. This year, Svitlana has graduated from I. K. Karpenko-Kary Kyiv National Theatre, Cinema and Television University and now works in the media project VJ Today. “This video is my thesis. I had chosen this topic because I didn’t have a moral right to select a different one: I am an IDP, and the topic of internal displacement is very close to me,” says Svitlana.
Svitlana will be awarded with a Filmmaking course at the Kyiv Academy of Media Arts (KAMA).
The winner in the category of video up to 5 minutes is Roman Pleten, Zaporizhzhia, with his work “War, People and Migration”. Roman works as a freelance photo and video editor. “I like interesting stories, and migration is always a story of someone’s life. It can be happy or it can be tragic. Over the last two years, the number of tragic stories has increased, which prompted me to research the causes. I’ve found a lot of information and decided to share it, as well as my understanding of this phenomenon, with others.”
Roman will be awarded with a smartphone Samsung Galaxy J1, charger power bank, and a starter pack with the tariff plan “Smartphone 3G +” from mobile operator lifecell.
The winners will attend a concert dedicated to the 65th anniversary of IOM globally and 20 years of IOM’s work in Ukraine where they will receive the awards from festival partners.
The Selection Committee of the contest was formed by the representatives of IOM and festival partners: Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Education, and mobile operator lifecell.
The Selection Committee has also noted the creativity of two other videos: “Be Parents, Not Just “Wallets” by Anastasia Matkovska and “Ukrainian Muslim Children Send Message to the World” created by Ali Mareei. Anastasia and Ali will also receive prizes from mobile operator lifecell.
